Position Description:
AGLA (American General Life and Accident Insurance Company) is seeking a Technical Support Analyst for AGLA's home office in the Brentwood area of Nashville. The analyst supports the actuarial department and is responsible for developing and maintaining databases, programs, and reports for Actuarial use.
Essential functions:
1. Analyze programming tasks assigned and work with supervisor on priorities and timelines.
2. Complete routine programming tasks. Test and implement programs.
3. Determine user requirements for new and modified programs and/or systems. Provide support and resolve routine problems. Perform ad hoc file queries independently.
4. Create effective and readable documentation for applications created and modified.
5. With assistance, create clear and accurate estimates for application development.
6. Act as a technical coach for junior team members, providing guidance in application development procedures and processes.
7. Train in technical skills and departmental standards and procedures.
8. Participate in team meetings and on-going skills development in languages and systems.
Position Requirements
Requirements:
1. Bachelor's or Associate degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a related field or graduation from high school or equivalent plus three to five years experience in computer programming.
2. Knowledge of database administration with the desire to grow in that knowledge and expertise. Understanding of Sybase IQ is a plus.
3. Ability to work in SharePoint and maintain the Actuarial SharePoint site.
4. Strong Windows application knowledge base. Knowledge of platform appropriate programming languages, database design, utilities and code management tools. Ability to write, maintain and run SQL scripts.
5. Moderate technical knowledge with hands-on experience of various file organizations (for example: VSAM and relational database). Moderate analysis, design and testing skills. Must be able to write comprehensive test plans and to complete them successfully
6. Ability to communicate effectively in written formats and verbal presentation. Must be able to express medium technical concepts in business terms.
7. Able to meet objectives and target dates under pressure, react to changing priorities, demonstrate initiative and develop new skills.
8. Must be able to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, such as PC equipment, printers, paper boxes, etc.
